What Is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA or 2FA)?

Multi-Factor Authentication provides an additional layer of security and ownership validation to the login experience for your FlightAware account. This is separate from the 6-digit one-time password that will be sent to your primary email (this password is required for login) with the regular login experience. Upon signing in, you’ll be presented with an optional prompt to set up an additional authenticator app. Below, you will learn more about how MFA works and how to remove it from your account if needed.

What are my Authentication App Options?

  • Some of the most common Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) apps include: Google Authenticator, Authy, Microsoft Authenticator, LastPass Authenticator, Duo Mobile, 1Password, etc. These apps are not associated with FlightAware so we are unable to provide direct support for these apps.

Configuring Two-Factor Authentication (MFA)

  • If you see a prompt asking you to scan a QR code in your authenticator app, you’ve started the MFA setup process.

  • If you did not intend to start this process, simply click "Back" and then select the "Not Now" option beneath the blue "Continue" button on the previous page. Screenshot 2025-03-12 at 9.03.59 AM.png
  • If you are unable to scan a QR code in your MFA app, you can select "can't scan this barcode?" and you will be given a code to enter into your MFA app of choice.

Deleting my Current MFA Configuration?

Contact FlightAware Support and provide the primary email associated with your account to reset the MFA configuration. This will also be necessary if you lose access to your authentication app.
